A few days ago Caleb hung buckets on our maple trees to begin collecting sap to boil down into syrup. The next day all of the buckets were overflowing! When we went to collect them, we had about forty-five gallons of sap, which only makes about one gallon of syrup. Well, we had forty-five gallons minus the couple of gallons that leaked out of the tank because we didn't realize the valve on the bottom was open. :) Anyway, Caleb boiled most of it down the next day, and now we have the first maple syrup of the season sitting in the refrigerator! Yum!
Of course,we're not allowed to eat it because Caleb hates to see the fruit of about 24hrs of work disappear in about 2 seconds, but it looks pretty. ;)
Ya'll are getting syrup already?!? I can't wait 'till we start getting it up here.... :-)
ReplyDeleteWe had a couple of warm days last week, and we were able to get quite a bit in. Right now though, it's cold and, the sap isn't flowing at all.
ReplyDeleteHopefully it will pick back up soon. Caleb won't let us eat any until he gets more, and I'm dying to drizzle a little on some warm French Toast!
