The Work of Today

Today has been a good day, at least I think it has. I'll see if I can recall what I've done; please excuse the short-term memory loss. :) This morning was spent in doing school, practicing instruments and such. We actually didn't get started until late morning because we thought we were going to have the day off, but plans changed. Anyway, after lunch Caleb and I headed over to the Rogers' place to do some yard work for them. We hauled trees (okay, branches, but they were big enough to be called trees) from the front of the yard to the back, we re-arranged the firewood pile and were quite disappointed not to find any snakes, although that could be a good thing. We hauled more branches to the dump pile and when Dad came and cut more down with the chain saw, we hauled those, too. I think we just about built a privacy wall with all the branches we carried back there.

It was quite pleasant working with Caleb, except when we stopped to get a drink of water. For this kind of work, Caleb usually has another friend helping him, but he couldn't make it, and you could tell Caleb was quite unhappy when he casually said, "I miss Jacob, he always brought food with him." Can you believe that? I went all the way out there to help him so he wouldn't have to do all the work by himself, and look what kind of praise I get. And he wasn't even thinking about Jacob, he was thinking about food!

Oh well. He did tell me he appreciated the help, or he told Dad he appreciated my help, I don't think he ever actually said anything to me. :)

I still love you anyway, little brother!

Never, ever, forget to bring food to a job. Ever.

  2. How was I supposed to know? I am usually not working with him like this and I don't get hungry like you boys do and if he had asked me to bring something I would have, and he could have brought something himself instead of just complaining to me about it.
