the garden was all planted. It is now unplanted.
Wow, the past week is really hard to describe. Just imagine lots of water and no power, and you might begin to get the idea. However, the Lord has really shown us his protection and mercy, and we are ever thankful for it.
Church last week was canceled. I can only remember one other time in my life when Dad had to call folks to tell them that we wouldn't be having church the next day (that time it was due to a snowstorm in Atlanta). But anyway, we couldn't get out; no one else could get in except for a few close neighbors; we had no power which also meant no water, so we didn't have church. Dad and I were able to get out through the woods on a four-wheeler around to a friend's place where our truck was parked and went out in search of a generator. We found one, but by the time we started to make it back home, the roads and bridges that were just clear an hour before were now covered in water. Daddy was determined to get home, and we did indeed make it by about ten o'clock that night but not without plenty of adventures along the way. :)
Looking back on that day, though, is really neat. It was amazing how God orchestrated everything. He could have let us get back in the way we had gotten out, but instead He took us along a different path, letting us meet new people and help others.
We hooked up the generator which gave us running water and some electricity. People came to our house to get water, take showers, cook and eat, and hang out. The neighbors with tractors all came together and fixed our road, so we were able to get out and go to town for more supplies. As the week went on, things increasingly got better. Our power was turned back on Thursday morning, as well as the phones.
The sun has been shining ever since (though I think it's supposed to rain a little more on Monday). We are all so very thankful to have friends in a strong, close-knit community to weather with storms like this. And we are even more thankful that we serve a sovereign God who controls the winds and the waves and loves and protects His people.
Stay tuned; pictures to follow. That is, as soon as I can find them/get them/upload them. You can check out the following blogs of friends in our area that have already beat me to blogging about the flood:
