Food in the UK

More than a few of you have asked about the food here...is it really that interesting? It's about the same as America, so far that I can tell. Except that they don't salt anything. And they brew their coffee like they brew their tea. And they don't seem to know what bacon is. *gasp* Bradshaws, please do not faint. Yes, I know it seems strange, but every time we order bacon off the menu it comes out like country ham. It's good, but its not the thin, crispy, crunchy stuff that we know and love. :(

Yes, we all had fish and chips yesterday for lunch in a small pub in Oxford. After applying substantial amount of salt, it was very good. They served it will what they called "Mushy Peas". Never heard of those before, but it was exactly what you might think: green peas mushed up.

Dad somehow manages to use up every bottle of ketchup that is placed on our table, but at least they seem to have a good supply. Along with the usual ketchup, mustard, mayo condiments, they always have a bottle of vinegar around. Don't know what's up with that; I guess they just enjoy their food a little more acidic or something.

Oh, and they do have Starbucks here. And that's a good thing. ;)

  3. Ick! I think I'll pass on the mushy peas...

Have y'all ridden in any double decker buses? We rode on one when we went to a fish and chips restaurant. They're pretty cool- unless it's raining and you're on the top level. :)

Hey, this is Caroline and Abigail!

We miss you a lot... It sounds like you're having fun. Do you miss country cooking? Starbucks sounds good right now. We have made 5 gallons of ice cream in the last week. Can't wait to see you!
