The Hickman Co. Fair!!

Woo! Such an exciting event in our little town!

Or not. My favorite quote from the evening was from someone I didn't even know. I was walking past this guy talking on the phone with that slow, hick southern accent. He was saying, "I have never been to the Hickman County Fair before! And I am never coming again. I mean, they don't even have a Farris Wheel!!"

But before you think that we were just miserable little creatures the whole time, let me say that we had a lot of fun. Of course, it helps when all your best friends show up and hang out with you. :)

Our main reason for attending the fair this year was that Anna was performing/competing in the Grinders Switch Idol competition with two of her friends. The Black Eyed Susans sang As the Deer in three-part harmony and did a lovely job. They didn't win, but it was a great experience, and they got to dress up in some cute outfits. Even their guitar accompanist got in on the whole matching thing. :)

Three of my sisters entered several items in the fair and all won prizes with one thing or another. Here is Kenan with two paintings that won 1st and 2nd prize! (check out the photograph up top; love it!)

Anna with her 1st place pencil holder. Made out of pencils.

Abigail with her candle that won 1st place.

Miss Annabelle, cute as always. Love the braids, girl!

Mr. Coolness himself graced us with his presence

The Black Eyed Susans!

Best friends...when they're not talking about football.

And now may I present...The Black Eyed Susans live in concert!!

Mariah sang alto.

Anna sang soprano.

And Caroline sang high tenor!

Oh, and Mr. Haverkamp played the guitar.

This was the guy that won the competition. He sang a gospel song a cappella, and it was amazing! I got to talk to him for a few minutes afterwards, and he was just the nicest, down to earth guy! We were all so happy when he was chosen as winner!

And who can go to the fair and not ride the rides? Not us! Even if it was Hickman County. :)
