A lot has been going on the past few days. Lord's Day evening we drove up to Waynesville, NC to visit my grandparents. We had great time. The weather was beautiful, the scenery gorgeous, and the company superb! :) It was great just to sit out on the front porch together as a family and talk about this and that and just to enjoy one another's company. We came back home Monday afternoon, or at least most of us did. Kenan stayed to draw and paint and who knows what else, and we picked her back up today. She had a good time, but we're glad to have her back.
My dear brother, the older one, has crippled himself. Okay, not completely crippled, but close to it. Yesterday, he was going up the stairs two at a time and missed the top step on the landing and somehow caught his big toe on the step. I'm not sure what he did but blood was going everywhere; he left a trail of it all the way up the rest of the stairs and into the kitchen. He was in quite a bit of pain and thinks he may have broken his toe. Oh, it looked nasty! I'm not sure if he can put a pair of shoes on so be praying for quick recovery!
Last night and today we snapped a bunch of green beans, strung peppers, and peeled and chopped hundreds (if it wasn't hundreds it was close to it; enough to make me never want to see a pear again!) of pears for pear chutney. Our five recipes of chutney was supposed to make about 40 half-pints and I think we canned about 60 half-pints! We almost didn't have enough jars! Speaking of jars, I thought you might want to know that we found seven dead scorpions in three of the jars. Now isn't that pleasant?
Well, it's off to bed. Got a busy day tomorrow, I think.
We're praying for Caleb and all who have to pick up the slack on things he does regularly. Gracious! I don't know what we'd do of Kyle were to harm some part of himself so as to leave him incapable of doing his regular chores for just a few days even!
ReplyDeleteSounds like y'all have been busy, but where on earth would seven scorpions have come from?!!
Scorpions...well, they give the chutney more protien!
ReplyDeleteJaocb?
ReplyDeleteHe better not have cried. Thats all I'm sayin.
Thanks y'all for commenting! I think this is a record!
ReplyDeleteLaura,
The boxes of jars were out in our shed and we've got a bunch of scorpions out there. I think we can go out there and lift up a stone and almost always find one! Yuck! I have no idea how the nasty little creatures made their way up into the loft and into the boxes and then into the paper that surrounded the jars and then into the jars...Go figure...
Jacob,
Thanks for the prayers for Caleb, I know he appreciates them! And yes, the scorpions would have added protien if we had used the jars and if we had not washed the jars out. Maybe we should have given you those jars of chutney! ;)
Anonymous,
Caleb most cetainly did not cry; you should know better than that! He's a man now and behaves like one...most of the time. :)
