Vacation and other things...

No, I haven't left the blogging world yet. We've been at my grandparents house and their internet connection was down so I couldn't post anything (somehow, though, I did manage to get that picture of the snoozing dog on here, but that was it!).

We had a great vacation, despite it being very hot and humid! The Stouffer family joined us for a couple of days and of course they really added to the fun! But then they left...

The Lord's Day that we were there, we drove with the Stouffers to Savannah, GA to Independent Presbyterian Church and had a wonderful time worshipping with our fellow brothers and sisters over there. On the way back we came up with a new way to play Phase 10 and that started out pretty well until something happened (can't imagine what) to make Caleb and Daniel quite upset. :)

After church, the Stouffers went home and we spent the rest of the afternoon resting and relaxing. A big thunderstorm came our way and we all sat out on the front porch and listened to the thunder and watched the lightning; it was really awful (meaning full of awe, not terrible); it made me think of just how powerful God is and I really can't imagine that.

Once the storm was over, Caleb and Jonathan decided to play. The rain had created some BIG puddles, so they just had to go play in them. Oh, they came back filthy, but they enjoyed it immensely!

Well, those are some of the highlights of our trip. It was a great vacation, one that Daddy really needed.

We are about to see the first fruits of Caleb's garden! Yea! It really is amazing that it has survived, not because Caleb is a poor gardener, he is an excellent one, but we weren't able to plant until late in the season and then we have been gone so much and it's been so dry. The very first morning after he planted everything, we woke up and found that the deer had just torn the garden to pieces; the only things they didn't get were the peppers and tomatoes. While on vacation he had a neighbor friend of ours water the plants for him and then when he had to go out of town, he got our ten-year-old next door neighbor to finish watering until we got home. Caleb was positive that this ensured a dead garden when we returned, but to our delight everything was still alive! And then when we play soccer...well...we haven't torn it up yet! (key word: yet)

Caleb has been such a hard worker and hasn't really gotten discouraged with his garden. He goes out to water it every day and is always talking about his peppers or his tomatoes. And I forgot to mention that one day I was cleaning out our pantry and found some green bean seeds. I took them to Caleb and he decided to plant them and see what happened. They grew and now he has his green bean plants; they don't have any green beans on them yet, but the plants are still green!

Things going on around here have been pretty normal; schoolwork, cooking, cleaning, mowing lawns, playing with Jonathan, etc. Today we are going to Thomaston for a funeral tomorrow, and then next week Daddy will be in San Antonio, but other than that, we're not doing much. We still haven't gotten much rain. We thought we were going to get some yesterday, the sky was really dark and there was lightning and thunder, but we only got about ten seconds of light rain, not even enough to get the sidewalk wet.
