May 28, Sherwood Forest

Last Saturday we stopped in Sherwood Forest for a picnic lunch which I thought was a neat idea. And it turned out to be a great stop.

The trees here were just fantastic!

This is the major oak that Robin Hood supposedly hung out at with his merry men. Poles have been put under the limbs to support them and keep them from breaking off of the tree.

Pretty cool, eh?

We thought so.

    "Oo-de-lally, oo-de-lally, golly what a day!"

Those are some mighty gnarly oaks! Forgive my venture back into forestry, but where they actually "mighty oaks" or were they white oaks, or post oaks, or chestnut oaks, or ... you get the idea? :P

  2. I'm really not sure, Laura. I only know that they called the big one the Major Oak, but that might be just because of how big it is.
